George Widrick House

Hidden inside Ballenger Park, a recreational area featuring playgrounds and ball fields in Frederick, Maryland, is a remarkably well-preserved example of a late-19th-century Federal-period brick house.

This type of dwelling is unique to the central and western parts of the state, that draw upon their neighbors to the north in Pennsylvania for architectural inspiration.

The George Widrick House in particular stands out for its intricate interior woodwork, which combines Federal and Classical forms.

In addition to the house, there are two outbuildings on the site—a small brick smokehouse and the stone foundation of a barn.
