Pohang Space Walk in Pohang, South Korea

The steel tracks peeking above the trees in Pohang's Hwanho Park are reminiscent of a typical seaside amusement park. But if you look closely, you will see people, not roller coaster cars, traversing the tracks in this park. In fact, Pohang's Space Walk was designed to be enjoyed on foot.

Korea's largest walkable art installation began development in 2019 by Pohang's city government in partnership with two German artists, Heiki Mutter and Ulrich Genth. Visitors brave enough to traverse the 717 steps will be treated to spectacular views of Youngil Bay and Youngildae Beach.

But Pohang's seaside location is not the only feature that makes it the perfect home for the Space Walk. POSCO, Korea's largest steel manufacturer, is headquartered in Pohang, where the 317 tons of steel used in this art piece were produced. The Space Walk is expected to become a permanent feature of Pohang's skyline as a special nod to the impressive steel manufacturing that takes place in the city.
