In Madrid, the city council finished removing phone booths in 2002, which coincided with the 50th anniversary of the television broadcast of the film "La cabina."

The Madrid city council wanted to commemorate this moment by placing a replica of the cabin seen in the film in an area adjacent to the actual filming location.

La Cabina (The Phone Booth) is a 1972 television movie directed by Spanish director Antonio Mercero. When it first aired on Spanish television it became an instant success.

It not only went on to win the first-ever Emmy for a Spanish TV film, but it also became a breakthrough for Mercero, who later created other commercial hits with series such as Verano Azul or Farmacia de Guardia.
