Swatch Reveals The New Moonswatch Mission To The Moonphase With Snoopy
In the fascinating world of watchmaking, an announcement has recently ignited the excitement of enthusiasts and collectors: Swatch has launched the new incredible MoonSwatch Mission To The Moonphase, also nicknamed the MoonSwatch Snoopy. This news comes after a two-month period of teasers in which the company sent out numerous signals and posts full of Easter eggs through its social media, leading us to inevitably connect some dots. We wrote an article about it just yesterday!
The Wait Is Over: A Tribute to Snoopy and the Moon Phases
The latest highly anticipated chapter of the Swatch x Omega series has arrived and definitely did not disappoint. The new MoonSwatch Mission to Moonphase comes in a total white version and pays tribute to both the moon and Snoopy, thanks to a very interesting moon phase counter at 2 o’clock. The total white look immediately connects to the latest Speedmaster, launched by Omega just a few days ago.
As you can immediately tell, the watch brings to mind Omega’s past collaborations with the Peanuts character, albeit in an even more playful key this time. Like the previous 2015 version, Snoopy is found on a sub-dial, but this time it’s not a chronograph but the moon phases!
Although the watch presents very well in the light, the greatest gem is seen when the lights are off. The moon phase counter, thanks to luminescent materials, lights up and reveals a playful inscription “I can’t sleep without a night light!”, a quote from the iconic comic. The Moon and scattered points on the background of the counter also take on a luminescent blue coloration, reminiscent of the starry sky.
The association between Snoopy and the moon might seem strange to some, but it actually represents a very strong connection as the iconic cartoon character has been NASA’s mascot for 50 years. So much so that the United States space agency even instituted the “Silver Snoopy Award,” an honor given for success in particular missions for flight safety.
On the case back, as with the other Moonswatches, we find the celestial body of reference, in this case, the Moon. However, for the MoonSwatch to the Moonphase of Snoopy, we immediately notice two very special things. The Moon is not depicted realistically as it was for the other watches in the series, but in a comic style. Finally, looking a bit more closely, we also find Snoopy’s footprint. Details that definitely please us collectors and enthusiasts.
Let’s now get to what everybody is asking and wondering. You might think that the watch will only be available on a day like what happened for the previous Mission To Moonshine Gold collection, but fortunately, that’s not the case. The watch will indeed be fully integrated into the collection and will not be produced in a limited measure. The price to purchase this wonderful wrist toy will be EUR 315.00.
Attention, we did not get it all wrong! The watch was launched on March 21st but will be available in Swatch boutiques only from March 26th, 2024, exactly two years after the market entry of the very first Moonswatches.
Final Thoughts
The new Snoopy MoonSwatch Mission To The Moonphase has already become an icon. The watch translates numerous elements dear to collecting into a much more playful language, precisely in Swatch’s style. Personally, I consider the launch absolutely successful and the watch equally so. The Snoopy details, the luminescent writing, contribute to making everything fun, without falling into banality and maintaining a very pleasant aesthetic. Just as it should be when wearing a Swatch.
